The Bramble Wood Bears are medium sized bruins. They range from 16cm to 26cm when standing. Being larger that Clover Copse Bears their tummies are filled with plastic pellets. This gives them substance without making them too heavy.

Designing Roxy

Roxy is the 2nd bear I designed as a workshop kit for Duttons for Buttons a wonderful haberdashery shop in old historic York. Like the original bear Milo, also designed for Duttons, Roxy is a Bramble Wood Bear. This means Roxy stands at about 26cm and is about 17cm high when sitting. This does however, depend on how the seams are sewn. Roxy has a slightly longer snout than Milo and slightly longer limbs compared to his body. This gives Roxy are slightly more mature look than the beginner bear Milo. Milo is of course our baby. Like Milo, Nico, and all the Bramble Wood bears, Roxy enjoys a life a luxury and would really love a little silk waistcoat!

Designing Roxy

So, would you like to make Milo, Nico or Roxy, what’s difference? It’s all about the mohair! Milo and Nico are beginner bears and made using multi-directional mohair. Ratiné mohair is multi directional and very forgiving to the beginner bear maker in several ways. Firstly, when cutting out each bear piece on the reverse the beginner bear maker doesn’t have to worry about which direction to place their pattern pieces. Secondly, when stitching the seams, the mohair is dense and fluffy therefore hides easily the occasional backstitch inconsistency. This fluffiness also beautifully covers up opening closures once your bear has been stuffed.

Roxy - Jacqueline's Bears

Roxy is made from dense mohair. This mohair is also fluffy and thick so is forgiving with seams, both stitching and closing. However Roxy’s dense mohair is directional, and therefore the bear maker needs to pay close attention to lay out the correct direction of each pattern piece. This can be a little tricky for the beginner bear maker. We therefore suggest that bear makers start with Milo or Nico and then progress onto making Roxy.

Roxy Kit

Currently Jacqueline has 2 kits ready for purchase by special order. Roxy, suitable for intermediate bear makers and Nico, Jacqueline’s beginner bear kit. Each kit contains all the specialist materials required to make your bear, including plastic pellets for the tummy and John James embroidery needles.
